Restaurant-Owning Episode: At the start of certain episodes, the Eds run mock restaurants all the time selling off food or inedible junk disguised to look like food ( albeit poorly). The Eds spend the episode attempting to sell him another friend - ending with a meeting party they set up, in which Jonny goes insane trying to pick one, before finding Plank at the party and the two reconciling. Rebound Best Friend: In one episode, Jonny gets into a fight with his seemingly inanimate best friend, Plank.Rationalizing the Overkill: In at least one case Sarah unleashes hell onto all three Eds (for a prank Eddy committed), she later laments that Double D probably didn't have anything to do with it, but "give those cute ones an inch and they take a mile!".
Also, it was the only story to actually tell Jonny how the Eds got into the wall: They were chased there by the Kankers. Then again, this was Ed's view of the world, suggesting while he has a hard time understanding people, he doesn't look down on them. The only thing notable about the other kids' personalities is that their minor quirks were slightly exaggerated: Kevin overused the word "dork" ("I'm dorkin', man!"), Double D babbled unintelligibly and all Nazz did was giggle. Nobody's personalities were mocked or made prettier, most especially Jimmy (Eddy made him into a diaper-wearing baby with crude utensils around his mouth, Edd imagined him without his braces, and Ed saw him as the limp and overly dramatic little boy he legitimately is). The funniest thing about it was Ed's story that had to have the most realistic portrayal of the kids' personalities. His version was a Deliberately Monochrome world where the Kankers become rampaging Kaiju by eating mashed potatoes and shoot lasers out of their armpits using chickens. Edd's version is in a pristine world where his crazy friends always screw things up and he has to lecture them (and most importantly, Eddy and Ed are cowed by his scoldings and listen rather than argue and dismiss his lecture). Eddy's version has him rich and successful, while the other kids are crude caricatures of themselves (Kevin is a literal Butt-Monkey, Rolf is a literal pinhead, Jimmy is still wearing diapers, Nazz is wearing a bikini and Sarah has a foghorn for a voice). "Rashomon"-Style: In "Once Upon an Ed", the Eds try to explain to Jonny how they wound up trapped inside his wall.Rapid-Fire Comedy: Usually averted by the judicious use of beats, letting the jokes sink in before moving on.Rolf: Curse this monkey ritual of English words! (Nana claps) Thank you, Nana!
